Today, Master Idaki Shin played a concert at Kaze-no Hall of Mitaka City Arts Center. In its message, the name of Jumong, the founder of Koguryo, was written twice. I was deeply moved. The music was beautiful and profound. I felt history from it, and yet it was deeply familiar while a wind I had known ever since childhood continued to blow. It was the wind of nation-building. Beyond anything that words could fully express, Jumong suddenly appeared, transcending fields, together with the deep and powerful sound of the piano performance. I could do nothing but simply watch and listen. He called to me, “You, let us cross together.” I saw a great river within me. Its surface, filled with sorrow, was impossible to look upon without tears. I heard that Koguryo had been born at the very depths of sorrow. I, too, living now, listened to the music with sorrow within me. Without even having time to think, I crossed the river, and the moment I reached the other side, I soared into flight. It was a new world. A dreamlike experience unfolded—“Here, I can live.” When I looked into it afterward, I understood that I had witnessed the founding myth of Koguryo. It was as though I were looking at a historical picture scroll. The scenes that appeared one after another portrayed the history of Koguryo. Jumong crossed the river and founded Koguryo. I understand that the river is a symbol of soaring from the past into the future. I, too, could cross the river and soar into a new place. From today, I will live here. And from the bottom of my heart, I wish to live here together with everyone. Even during the concert, within my heart, I was calling out to various people, saying, “Let us cross together.” I wish to live together with everyone on a life journey toward a new world.
