Yesterday at Master Idaki Shin’s concert in Fuchu, a great change occurred. It became an experience through which I realized that I had been carrying many burdens within my body, and I could no longer continue doing things in the same way as before. Although I welcomed the morning with my body feeling so heavy that I could hardly move, when I had “Tamashii (Soul)” coffee roasted by Master Idaki Shin, I regained my energy all at once. Strength welled up within me, and I headed to Komaya in Roppongi.
From today, I put my heart into welcoming our guests with a renewed heart and in a new dimension. When I made Yomogi Daifuku, I finished making them in no time and had a great deal of time left. I was surprised at first by how greatly the way I use time had changed.
All who come tell us how much they enjoy the space of Komaya and its gatherings, and I am simply filled with joy.
By a turn of events, I came to renovate the whole of Cafe Komaya. Before the renovation, I could never have imagined that it would become a place where such gatherings would be held. When the renovation was completed, I felt that this place was sacred ground. It became clearly apparent that this was not merely a place for running a café.
I wished to create what I had most wanted to do — a place where the existence of each and every person, each one being the only one of his or her kind in this world, could be manifested, and where one could regain and cultivate a way of living that creates true peace. And so I began holding gatherings at Komaya.
The space surrounded by natural wood is a sacred place where one regains oneself. What is impure appears and is cleansed away. It truly has the workings of sacred ground.
The sound of Master Idaki Shin flowing within the warmth of Komaya opens a vast space within one’s heart, as though sound were being heard from the universe. Space and this body become unified, and one regains one’s true self.
The coffee I serve is a special coffee that can only be enjoyed at Komaya. Master Idaki Shin specially roasts “Komaya Special Ceremony Coffee.” It is a supreme coffee that has already gone beyond words such as “delicious.” It feels like receiving drops from the divine. It is a coffee through which body and heart are purified and cleansed, and true strength for living is born. I feel that simply by drinking this coffee, one can regain one’s true self.
To offer the finest hospitality in the finest place, while serving the finest coffee and sweets, and expressing in poetry the words that are born — these are truly happy moments in life. Everyone feels this, no matter who one is, and one is deeply delighted. I often hear people say that coming to Komaya has become a goal for them.
Today was a day in which I deeply felt gratitude for being able to do such work. Thank you very much.
