Messages from Keiko Koma

22nd Mar. 2026 / at Morioka

Leaving Tokyo, now a beautiful space with cherry blossoms blooming here and there, we traveled along Tohoku Expressway and arrived in Morioka. Along the way, a beautiful waning moon was watching over us. I came to Morika after a long absence. It has been fifteen years since I established a base here in connection with the disaster-stricken areas of Iwate following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Today, there were many moments when memories of that time vividly resurfaced. The sensation of feeling the breath of nation-building returned, and feeling that nation-building will continue, my soul comes alive. Above all, I have come to understand, painfully through many years of experience, that nation-building lies in the richness of the human heart, spirit, and sensitivity. If there were a human heart, I deeply feel that no town planning or social systems that sacrifice human lives would be built. If we can live as human beings in our natural state of being in one life, in which all can live, then I believe we can create a society where everyone can live truly. I have had experiences that compel me to return to the origin of humans being humans in many situations, and I ultimately arrive at IDAKI as the origin. Forty-three years ago, with the desire to create a society where children can live, I began IDAKI. Over these forty-three years, I have come to understand deeply that the future cannot be created unless human beings restore true human nature in their hearts. From now on, unless we live as human beings, humanity as a whole will not be able to survive. I sincerely hope to share with many people the experience of regaining our humanity and nurturing our hearts. As I organize the IDAKI Counseling Courses and our concerts, I will continue to work so that we may share opportunities with many people where we experience what it means to be human. The nature of the Tohoku region is rich and gentle. It always heals life, grants new strength, and supports me. I am very happy that I could come here again after a long time. Thank you very much.
