Messages from Keiko Koma

16th Feb. 2026 / in Tokyo

Today, we welcomed a guest from Lebanon to Tokyo Komaya. He was delighted by the refined and elegant atmosphere of the space and repeatedly praised it, saying, “This is a wonderful place.” Surrounded by solid wood, the space is quiet, profound, and imbued with a sacred atmosphere. We believe Komaya is a place to regain one’s true self, and we host our gatherings as an opportunity for making leaps. Tomorrow, we will hold another Keiko Koma Coffee Ceremony “Encountering the True Self—From Demands of One’s Life to Creation.” Using a special method of preparation, we offer ceremonial coffee that Master Idaki Shin has roasted especially for this occasion, served in ceramic cups handmade by him. The cups he has created evoke a sense of the universe, allowing the heart to resonate with an infinite world and to open widely and expansively. Everyday constraints, attachments, and stagnant things begin to move, and you regain your true self, becoming filled with vibrancy. I am sincerely grateful that we can offer such opportunities. I feel that experiences like these are essential in life, and with the hope that many people may share them, we continue to devote ourselves to creating a better space each time. Tomorrow, following the ceremony, we will live-stream “Today’s Talk,” and afterward hold a gathering entitled “Gathering to Express in Poetry the Deepest Wishes That Arise as We Move Toward Full Houses for Concerts.” Spending time expressing our deepest wishes through poetry without explanatory language creates a moment filled with deep stillness in silence, which feels relaxing and pleasant. When the poems are shared, we find that works where one’s true self shows have emerged. I always feel that such moments are necessary in life. And such moments are precious and enriching times in life. These experiences become a source of strength for moving into tomorrow, opening moments in which insights arise and creativity unfolds beyond what one could have imagined. I wonder how things will unfold tomorrow. We will prepare Fortune Daifuku rice cakes and look forward to welcoming everyone.
