Messages from Keiko Koma
25th Sep. 2019

On a day in Paris, I encountered many people at my exhibition held at the big gallery. Meeting people of different races and backgrounds, I had a wonderfully blessed time. I was delighted to meet those whom I wouldn’t have met in my lifetime if I had stayed in Japan. I saw their roots from their eyes—their brilliance, gentleness, sadness. Although I saw the history of the races and sensed their sorrow, I wept meeting people one after another, joyful encounters that would change past history. My life was filled with joy and gratitude. A lot of visitors said my marbling artworks and Japanese washi paper were beautiful, which made me happy. I’m thankful that we can live connected through the washi paper and other art pieces.
Hanging 13 m-long rolls of Kimono cloths in the big gallery, I saw a new world appear—the world we live in was changed. I was delighted to feel my free, dynamic life. And it brings me joy to share the experience with many people. Spreading joy and sharing the experience, I will live and work to build a peaceful world as quickly as possible.
Growing a sense of closeness to the beautiful city of Paris, I will live with hope to come here again. The art exhibition in Paris, something like an adventurous experience for me, will live forever in my life as an eternally shining star. I’m truly delighted to have met so many people. Thank you very much.
