The festivity of Koguryo
I made mind-scape drawings on hand made sweets wishing to celebrate the coming spring festivity. I also designed their shape after the silhouette of Mt. Gojo that made me smile. They were hand baked by Mr. Idaki Shin, and as I picked one up I enjoyed the feeling of a great continent, the vast universe and a heavenly world. While I loved festivities associated with the rotation of seasons, months, etc, I always wished to express our gratitude to Mother Earth and Heaven, and share with my fellows a celebration for the unity of our life with nature and the eternal nature of a human soul. Last year having opened the Koma gallery Café at Yasaka, unable to do nothing, facing the arrival of the spring season, I held a fair of my glass art works to welcome spring called “ Tokasui, flowers of peach and water festival”. In my mind I always cherished a beautiful memory of throwing beans together with my father to celebrate the traditional Setsubun festival. Later I wanted to know the origin of this festival, and came to know the ancient relationship with my ancestor, as I came across one book with a familiar aroma saying that Setsubun was brought to Japan from north east China. Being true to my inspiration and a special aroma, I always organized something, and for this year I created special sweets together with Mr. Idaki Shin. I also wrote a message to each piece and prepared a beautiful organdy package that I specially dyed with a marbling drawing that I had created on a snowy day. Patterns and energies manifested in my marbling drawing varied depending on weather, atmosphere, temperature, etc., and this time it looked pure and beautiful like white snow. I was happy and anticipated the arrival of spring. Soon I would hold a screening event of the video of Reika and the Legends of Koguryo Rediscovered concert. My heart trembled as something new and wonderful would come together with new season, and I was realizing a new beginning every day. I was grateful to a wonderful time.
