It’s been a habit of mine since childhood to think about the meaning of life. Viewing mountains, seeing trees, chasing the river flow, feeling close to shining plants, following the wind, looking up at skyscapes—at these moments, I contemplate life and its meaning. Today on my way from Tokyo to Mt. Hiei, I took a road where Mt. Fuji towered above me. Hidden in the clouds, the mountain was unseen. At that moment, I sensed an aroma of summer in my childhood. A nostalgic scent—one that reminded me of my late father. He often took his family to Shonan and Hakone. In summer, he would take us to the Shonan beach to swim. We also often visited a place at the foot of Mt. Fuji. My elder brother spent his whole summer there and grew flowers. I also have many memories of the place. Every summer, I remember that I studied English hard at my brother’s house. A recollection of a scene in the place, where I felt the presence of Mt. Fuji right next to me, wafted on a summer scent. I felt that I was heading towards the “Legends of Koguryo Rediscovered” concert together with many souls. Moving westward today, I passed through places related to my ancestors. Souls that lay still in the land have awakened and started to move. They are gathered together with us to realize the earnest wish of humankind. The “Legends of Koguryo Rediscovered” concerts will be held at Kyoto, Biwako, and Nara. I wish to open up the future together with everyone who gathers. Thank you very much.
